Limiting of contact and communication with the other parent is a PDPA strategy which
usually occurs when the child is visiting the TP (Baker ,2021;Harman & Biringen,
2018).In order to illustrate this, Baker (2021) and Harman & Biringen (2018) found that
throughout the TP’s parenting time, the AP frequently texts or calls the child
relentlessly where he or she sometimes sends pictures of their animals, pets and other
loved ones who are fond of them in order to lure them back to them .Thus this
behaviour is intended to remove the children’s attention from the TP. Harman and
Birigen (2018) further inform that the AP also would call the child and enquire if they
are feeling “safe”. This would seem to suggest that the child needed to be concerned
about their own safety when with the TP. The meddling with the parenting time with
the TP has the following effects namely; the quality of the parenting time with TP is
compromised, makes it difficult for the child to be entirely present and emotionally
accessible to the TP. Naturally, the TP who would have loved to use the parenting time
in order to bond and set records straight with the children is denied chance to do so.
Moreover, as the authors found it is common for some APs to make threats of injuring
themselves in order to make the TP conform to their wishes of returning the children. In
such instances, the AP may threaten to end their lives or say they will suffer from
depression if the TP pursues court involvement to impose court orders.
